Cara Braun Thorpe

High Performance Leadership + Learning Coach, M. Ed.

Hello, I'm Cara! My coaching focuses on high-performing women experiencing ADHD symptoms and mothers navigating their children's ADHD or Executive Function Skills challenges, often while addressing their own.

I am a Jersey Girl with Canadian roots, a love for gardening, and a heart that's twice the size it needs to be. I wouldn't change it for anything! I reside in the northern Midwest with my family of five, which feels more like seven when you count our dogs (because let's face it, all dogs have ADHD)!

Every morning, I wake up eager to embrace the day, feeling truly content and fulfilled in all areas of my life. I am actively living out God’s incredible purpose for me. It sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? One that I've achieved through consistent effort towards a vision and a deep desire for what I believed was possible. I am committed to following the Lord’s guidance.

However, a decade ago, my situation was quite different. What I now recognize as anxiety, sprinkled with a touch of depression – a result of untreated ADHD – kept me from embracing my identity in Christ. On the surface, I appeared to be an overachiever and an overcomer, running a successful educational company while battling a debilitating condition. I was quick to smile, kind with my words, and generous with my time. Yet, internally, my perspective was vastly different. I only knew how to keep pushing ahead: doing more, being more, and giving more to my children, family, and clients until there was nothing left of me beyond the roles I played for others. I had tied my self-worth to my ability to assist others. I felt like a failure as a mother when, as a seasoned teacher and founder of a learning company, I struggled to support my own bright son with ADHD in school.

In my quest to communicate my son’s needs to his teachers, I pursued a life coaching certification focused on ADHD. Miraculously, through my ADHD Life Coach certification journey, I uncovered my own ADHD symptoms and began the process of breaking free from the prison of self-doubt and shame that had dominated my inner dialogue. This is the essence of my mission, utilizing specific tools related to mindset, skillset, and habits.

Many remarkable women are discovering their own diagnoses while seeking treatment for their children, and a wealth of research is emerging about ADHD in women and girls, highlighting our creativity, bravery, and capacity for compassion.

I consider it a tragedy to have lost so many years to self-doubt and uncertainty due to my neurodiverse brain. However, I am aware that all my struggles have equipped me with the tools to show up authentically for myself, my family, my friends, and my clients. I bring my perfectly imperfect self to my coaching practice, complemented by a Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education training in reading, writing, and mathematics, Leadership Coaching in Becoming Your Best and Do What Matters Most, 25 years as a business founder, leader, and trainer, and extensive research in Executive Function Skills.

I look forward to discovering how we can join forces to help you take steps on your remarkable journey to becoming your favorite version of yourself in every aspect of your life!
